Identifying VFO's

  • Comparison of 2008 and 2009 NYS Mathematics Exam
    • Identified the10 questions with the lowest student performance (% correct) for each year
    • Selected all of the performance indicators that were in the bottom 10 on both exams
    • Selected the performance indicators that were in the bottom 10, but not for both years. (showed a decrease in % from 2008 à 2009)
  • Administer pre-test (post-March topics already covered) during the week of 9/29-10/2 to all students
  • Use DYO results to identify weaknesses by grade

Identified VFO's - Grade 8

  • 7.A.4 Solve multi-step equations by combining like terms, using the distributive property, or moving variables to one side of the equation (2008-50%,2009-63%,56%)
  • 8.A.3 Describe a situation involving relationships that matches a given graph (2008-45%,2009-65%,47%)
  • 8.A.7 Add and subtract polynomials (Integer coefficients) (2008-53%,2009-57%)
  • 8.A.12 Apply algebra to determine the measure of angles formed in parallel lines cut by a transversal (2008-49%)

Identified VFO's - Grade 7

  • 7.N.8 Find the common factors and greatest common factor of two or more numbers (2008-54%,2009-55%)
  • 7.M.2 Convert capacities and volumes within a given system (2008-82% & 94%,2009-77% & 34% & 48%)
  • 6.A.5 Solve simple proportions within context (2008- 78%,2009-47%)
  • 6.A.3 Translate two-step verbal sentences into algebraic equations (2008-81%,2009-62%)

Identified VFO's - Grade 6

  • 6.N.12 Solve percent problems involving percent, rate, and base (2008-43%,2009-46%)
  • 5.S.6 Record experiment results using fractions/ratios (2008-83%,30%)
  • 6.N.26 Estimate a percent of a quantity (2008- 44%)

Action Plan to address Identified VFO's

  • Share results with math teachers
  • Interventions: DoNow, questions added to subsequent DYO's, Accelerated Math, Spiraled HW assignments, teachers share ideas for addressing these areas of weakness in PD
  • Revision of pacing Calendar à more time spent on identified VFO's
