The Peer Mediation/Conflict Resolution program at I.S. 93 engages trained members (Project Friend and students) in facilitating peace-making solutions to conflicts arising among the student body. Every year selected students become peer mediators after they receive training in conflict resolution. Trained staff members supervise mediations and conduct skill-building sessions for the peer mediators during the course of the year.
Project Friend
Our goal is to teach students to deal with different personalities, sensitivity, and cultures. They also educate the students about the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. Projects Friend curriculum focuses on prevention, self esteem, peer pressure, refusal skills, and conflict resolution. The counselor implements the curriculum through classroom presentations as well as during group and individual counseling.The program encourages students to make the "right" choices, to respect one another and to work together as a team.
